IDAHOBIT Day

RECENTLY I was honoured to join with community members, other agencies, councillors and staff to celebrate International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) Day.

On this day we proudly raised the new progressive flag at council’s Splatt Street office.

It was a wonderful day for our local history books and I was pleased to lead council on this momentous occasion.

The day was as an opportunity for us to stand together and show support for our LGBTQIA+ community, their friends and their families.

Following the flag raising ceremony, our library and youth services departments teamed up to host a morning tea at the library. It was a great success.

Navigating business: Social Media and Branding

COUNCIL has teamed up with Swan Hill Incorporated to host a business event focused on social media and branding.

As most of you know, this is my thing, so I would encourage all of our local business community to take advantage of this fantastic event.

The event is on June 8 at the Commercial Hotel in Swan Hill.

From 6.30pm, business people can network and hear from fellow local business owners on their business journey so far; how social media has transformed their business; and, the importance of knowing your brand.

There will be an opportunity to pick the brains of these driven business-people along the way, albeit in a casual, relaxed environment.

Illness in the community

IT seems ironic that it was just my last column when I was talking about council’s immunisation clinics and encouraging residents to get vaccinated, then all of a sudden, I was hit with my own case on COVID-19.

Fortunately, I was triple vaccinated and had a rather mild case, recovering quite quickly.

There’s some nasty illnesses around at the moment, so I encourage you all to get vaccinated against COVD-19 (if you haven’t already), get your flu shots, wash your hands and continue to practice safe hygiene.

This will help to protect your family and your loved ones.

As always, if you are showing any signs of cold or flu, stay home and minimise the spread.
