YOU may have heard the announcement the Rector gave last Sunday. Some people were a bit shocked.

Bishop Matt Brain writes: “In an exciting step towards my vision of a worshipping congregation in every community, Archdeacon Peter Blundell has accepted my invitation to begin a new position that has been created to raise up and co-ordinate a house church ministry.

“Specifically, this role is to enable the formation of Christian communities of faith in small rural villages and localities across the Mallee and East Wimmera districts, in partnership with existing parishes across the region.

“These may be described as micro-churches or house churches, either meeting in private homes or existing community facilities.”

With some sense of sadness at what must conclude, but with a sense of inspiration and excitement, Peter has accepted this new role but will finish as Rector of the Parish of Swan Hill. Most likely, his last Sunday at Christ Church will be August 14 before taking some annual leave.

Coming up in the meantime, the monthly car boot sale is upon us this weekend.

Next Wednesday, the local Mother’s Union group will welcome colleagues from around the Bendigo Diocese for a gathering.

These people do a wonderful job in supporting families and family values. There will be a guest speaker from the Orange Door.

Also, a heads up that we have a fifth Sunday this month. Details of the service for July 31 will be out next week.

GRAIN SHED

EVEN though it’s cold outside, if you take time to look around, you’ll see the signs of spring emerging everywhere, heralding the hope of the warmth to come.

There are blossom buds appearing on the almond trees, the jonquils are beginning to open their creamy petals, the orange and creamy yellows of the clivias are beginning to peep amidst the dark green foliage and the ranunculus are getting their beautifully coloured dresses ready for dancing in the spring breezes.

These are just some of the signs of God at work in His World.

At the Grain Shed Church, all our kids and youth programs re-awaken this week for term three.

Tonight our Grain Shed Youth meet at 6.30pm for Youth Alpha.

This Sunday at 10am, Pastor LaMont will be sharing insights from Philippians 3:12-21 about enemies and citizens.

Grainshed Kids onsite will resume on Sunday for all children aged three to 12 years.

This week, the children will be discovering what it means to be a true friend.

You will find the links on our Grainshed Facebook page every Friday or Saturday.

Our mainly music program will resume for term three on July 19 from 9.30am to 11am.

Jessie has some brand new songs and rhymes for the pre-schoolers and parents to enjoy together.

Of course our craft ladies will be meeting on Thursday as usual at 10am.
