Man dies after tractor fall in Woorinen

THE local community has been left shaken and heartbroken after the death of an Afghan man, who fell from a trailer in Woorinen.

Police media said the 70-year-old man fell from a trailer that was being towed by a tractor along North South Road, near the intersection of Reserve Road, about 12.40pm on Monday. The man was taken to hospital but later died.

“The driver of the tractor, a 40-year-old Swan Hill man, stopped at the scene and assisted police with their inquiries,” a police spokesperson said.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives and WorkSafe are investigating the incident.

A WorkSafe spokesperson said it is understood the tractor-trailer was turning when the worker fell to the road.

The death is the fourth workplace fatality this year, three more than at the same time in 2021.

Afghan community members and their supporters congregated on Wednesday night at the Swan Hill Uniting Church to comfort each other.

Any witnesses or anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
