Man faces court on Manangatang murder charge

ALBURY man Dael Daniel Newman, 41, has been charged with murder, aggravated burglary and intentionally causing injury following seasonal worker Dave Gaskell’s death in Manangatang on March 30.

During a filing hearing in Wodonga Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, it was revealed Mr Newman was being medicated for schizophrenia and depression, lived with the spinal condition scoliosis and was addicted to opiates.

Emergency services were called to the Manangatang property about 9.15pm on March 30 after reports of a stabbing.

On arrival, police and paramedics worked on Mr Gaskell, who was found with critical injuries. The 58-year-old died at the scene.

Mr Newman is also charged with injuring a woman at the Manangatang property.

He was remanded to appear at Mildura Magistrates’ Court on August 31.

A 36-year-old West Albury woman was also arrested in NSW on Monday morning but was later released without charge.

Anyone with further information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
