Police continue search for former Balranald footballer

A CORONIAL investigation is underway into the suspicious October 18 disappearance of Kimberley man Jeremiah Rivers, 27, who played football for Balranald last season.

Mr Rivers is understood to have been on a pig hunting trip in outback Queensland as part of a larger trip home to Darwin from Balranald.

He was last seen walking away from a Wippo Creek campsite, near Noccundra. Detectives later declared his disappearance as suspicious and have since said accounts of what occurred on the trip were “not consistent”. It is understood the official search for Mr Rivers did not begin until the day following his disappearance.

According to an ABC report, Coroner Donald McKenzie is in the early stages of an investigation.

Police had previously sought information regarding footage of a white Ford Focus bearing Queensland registration 600SZJ.

Its occupants were involved in a number of fuel drive-offs at a service station on Murilla Street in Miles, near Noccundra, between 8.30pm and 9.30pm on October 18. The same vehicle was then seen leaving a service station in Thargomindah the following day on October 19 around 11.50am.

The vehicle has since been located in Coomera and seized.

Investigators are attempting to identify all persons who were in the Wippo Creek – Noccundra area or may have travelled through western NSW and Queensland to Noccundra from October 16 to October 19 and are asking for those persons to make contact with police and provide details.
