Mother due to testify against killer

A FORMER Swan Hill College captain murdered by her estranged husband was due to testify against him over allegations he had raped her years earlier.

Adrian Basham is charged with raping Samantha Fraser (pictured) on three occasions in 2014 and 2016 inside their Phillip Island family home.

Ms Fraser was found hanging in her Cowes garage the day after her 38th birthday on July 23, 2018.

The mother-of-three had separated from Basham a year earlier.

Basham, 44, was last month found guilty of murder following a six-week Supreme Court trial.

The 12 jurors found Basham staged a suicide scene.

Ms Fraser was due to testify against her estranged husband at a committal hearing on July 30, 2018.

The sexual assault allegations were told to the jury during the murder trial but a suppression order was placed on the allegations.

The court heard in 2014 Basham allegedly locked Ms Fraser in the pantry and raped her while her children were nearby.

Basham is accused of raping Ms Fraser on two further occasions in 2014 and 2016 while she was asleep.

Basham denied the allegations and has been committed to stand trial in the County Court.

He will face a pre-sentence hearing for the single count of murder in September.
