Search for Colleen South scaled back

RESOURCES have been scaled back in the search for missing South Australian woman Colleen South, last seen near Wycheproof three weeks ago.

The 58-year-old’s car and belongings were found abandoned on a back road near the Mallee town.

Superintendent Rebecca Olsen said while police hadn’t found conclusive evidence of what had happened to Ms South, it was unlikely there had been any foul play involved in her disappearance.

Ms South was last seen in Ninyenook, about 30km north-east of Wycheproof, about 3pm on July 3.

Supt Olsen on Friday told The Guardian that Victoria Police would be reducing resource deployment and “remain with the division to continue with the avenues of inquiries”.

“There has been over 1000km covered on foot throughout this search, in addition to the air and specialist deployments with the use of the horses, off-road motor bikes, dogs, airwing and drones,” she said.

“Although the resources are reducing, we will continue our search for Colleen.

“Some of those members have done 18km every day through terrible conditions. They have been amazing.”

More than 100 officers have been involved in the search in the past three weeks.

Ms South is about 154cm tall, of solid build, and has brown hair and green eyes. She was last seen wearing a black-and-white striped shirt with blue jeans.

Police have released an image of Ms South and urge anyone who sights her or has information on her whereabouts to call Swan Hill police on 5036 1600.
