RESIDENTS of a unit on Balranald’s main street have been forced to escape after the building caught alight at the weekend.
A 000 call on Sunday evening told emergency services that the upper storey of a building on Market Street was ablaze.
Balranald Fire and Rescue brigade was joined by Balranald RFS firefighters and out-of-town RFS crews in putting out the fire, which took more than two hours to get under control.
NSW police, an ambulance crew and Balranald Shire workers also went to the scene.
Balranald Fire and Rescue station deputy captain Kaitley Linnett said the street had to be shut and all traffic diverted along back streets.
No one was injured in the ordeal.
Police were investigating the cause of the fire.
Ms Linnett thanked the Balranald community for the respect and support it displayed at the scene.
