Caution notice over ‘joint’

A MAN was issued a caution notice after being observed in possession of cannabis at Lake Boga.

He was sitting at the water’s edge at Lake Boga smoking what police believed was a “joint” on January 14 about 4pm.

Officers searched the man and located a “joint” under his towel and cannabis in a ziplock bag.

He was issued the caution notice.

Drug charges

POLICE charged a Swan Hill man with numerous drug offences after allegedly being in possession of cocaine last week.

Police spoke to a 20-year-old man on Campbell Street shortly before midnight on Saturday.

The man was searched and three small bags of a white substance were located on him.

Police said he admitted that the substance was cocaine.

He was was charged with trafficking a drug of dependence, and possessing and dealing property suspected to be the proceeds of crime.

Firearm offences

A ROBINVALE man has been charged with firearm offences following an ongoing investigation in November last year.

Police said the 46-year-old admitted that some of his firearms and ammunition were not stored correctly.

Some firearms were in a wardrobe and another two were unsecured in a shed on his property.

He was charged with numerous firearm offences and has his firearm licence suspended.

He will appear in court at a later date.

Fast speeds detected

AN alleged hoon told police he was late to have his car serviced and saw a “straight stretch of road and went for it”.

Highway patrol members stopped the vehicle travelling at high speeds on the Swan Hill-Sea Lake Road about 1pm on Thursday last week.

The 53-year-old Ultima man was detected travelling at 144km/h in a 100 zone.

He was fined $786 and had his licence suspended for six months.

“His reason for speeding was that he was late to get his car serviced and he saw a straight stretch of road and went for it,” a police spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, a 45-year-old Pyramid Hill man was caught travelling at 140km/h in a 100 zone on Bendigo-Pyramid Hill Road at Mitiamo about 4pm on Wednesday last week.

He allegedly told police he didn’t know what speed he was doing.

He then underwent an oral fluid test which returned a positive result to cannabis.

“His reason for having an illicit drug in his oral fluid was ‘I didn’t know I had it in me’,” the spokesperson said.

The driver is looking at a minimum six-month licence loss and substantial fine when police receive the toxicology report.

Drug drivers

A MAN has been prohibited from driving after he returned a positive oral fluid rest to methylamphetamine in Beverford.

Police intercepted a vehicle on the Murray Valley Highway about 5.30pm on Saturday.

The 27-year-old gave no reason for having the illicit drug in his oral fluid.

He was immediately prohibited from driving.

A day later, highway patrol officers intercepted two people found to be driving under the influence of drugs within the Swan Hill township.

The first man, 28, was intercepted at 10.45am and returned a positive result to cannabis.

The Swan Hill resident said he had consumed cannabis a few days ago and didn’t think it would still be there.

The second driver, a 24-year-old man from Swan Hill, also returned a positive result to cannabis and “gave a very truthful reason why it was in his system, ‘Just being stupid’.”

Both were immediately prohibited from driving and will be awaiting for their toxicology results to confirm the positive result.
