Victim speaks about assault

ONE of Shafiul Milky’s first victims dubbed him the “devil doctor”.

Fran Millington, who has given The Guardian permission to use her real name, saw Milky three times during September 2012 after she injured her ankle.

The court heard that, despite Ms Millington visiting for her ankle on the first two appointments, Milky redirected conversation to breast examinations.

On the third visit, which was to discuss blood test results, Milky touched her breast and squeezed her nipple.

He told her to remove her pants so he could feel her pulse in her groin area, and exposed her breasts and pressed a stethoscope against them.

She told the court she noticed he was pulling or scratching at his groin area.

Ms Millington left the clinic and started crying and shaking outside.

Milky was years later charged with four counts of indecent assault over what transpired at this appointment.

More than 10 years after Ms Millington was abused, Milky was found guilty of crimes against her and four more patients, who he offended against at the same clinic between 2016 and 2018.

“My message to the Swan Hill community is that it has taken 10 years for justice and only the last four years did all the other women find the strength, power and overcome their shame and humiliation that they may be feeling,” Ms Millington told The Guardian.

“Only now each woman who is hiding with their experiences have now come to the realisation that it is safe to come forward.”

Ms Millington said she felt “number, displaced and irrelevant to her existence”.

“The actual finding him guilty was a huge thud,” she said.

“Waiting eight days for the jury to reach their verdict was harrowing, draining and physically ill … the amount of times I was visiting the toilet was ridiculous as I was not eating.

“A huge elephant has lifted from my shoulders and soul.

“As soon as the verdict was relayed to me, I crumbled to the concrete paving, started shaking and cried and sobbed.”
