Bad day on roads

FOUR people were taken to hospital after two trucks collided on the Murray Valley Highway at Tresco on Thursday afternoon.

Swan Hill police said a tipper truck was turning right from Benjeroop-Tresco Road onto the highway when it collided with a medium-sized tray truck heading south about 3pm.

The intersection was blocked the traffic diverted before the highway was reopened about three hours later.

A 26-year-old Clayton South man was taken to Swan Hill District Health with serious injuries before being transferred to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

His two passengers were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 60-year-old Leitchville man, who was driving a tip truck, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police will investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Police are appealing for dashcam footage.

Officers said it was a “bad day” on roads across the Swan Hill police service area, with highway patrol also intercepting drunk and drug-affected drivers.

A 64-year-old Nyah man returned a positive breath test reading of .086 while a 50-year-old male in Leitchville returned a positive oral fluid test for cannabis.

A Kerang man, 33, returned a positive oral fluid test for both methamphetamines and cannabis.
