Ute crash starts fire

A FORD utility hauling a trailer full of wood flipped and caught fire after losing control at a Burkes Bridge intersection between 3am and 6am on October 25.

A second vehicle arrived but failed to tow the ute free. The unknown occupants and the ute driver then abandoned the ute and left the scene.

The CFA was called to extinguish the fire, which had spread to a nearby fence.

The ute driver failed to call for help, but a witness provided police with a video of the incident.

Costly doughnuts

DOUGHNUTS in a Swan Hill carpark have cost a driver more than $1700.

Police said an unofficial car meet at the Swan Hill Bunnings carpark last Saturday evening was initially “well-mannered”, but one driver’s stunts damaged a non-slip paint strip.

Police viewed hours of CCTV footage and later charged a driver whose vehicle was impounded, costing him the fine.

The driver will also appear at Swan Hill Magistrates’ Court.
