Social media warning
PEOPLE have been warned to use caution when sending intimate images through social media platforms after a victim was held for ransom.
Police said the victim received a message on Snapchat from a UK person demanding $2000 in exchange for not posting intimate images that the victim had sent his partner three months earlier.
The victim did not know this offender and did not pay the ransom.
It was not known if the UK person had the images, but they had knowledge of them.
“Remember, once you post images, you have lost control of them and if you read the fine print, the images become the property of the platform you are using,” Swan Hill police Senior Constable Andrew Downes said.
“So don’t be fooled, thinking your images will be safe, they won’t be.”
Bat confrontation
A WOMAN used a baseball bat to damage property while trying to confront another person at their Swan Hill residence, police said.
The accused was said to have confronted the female victim at a Murlong Street property at about 9.30am on Sunday.
Police said that after the victim refused to come outside, the accused smashed two windows before fleeing.
The accused was arrested and charged with criminal damage.
Ute theft
A UTE was stolen from a Swan Hill motel carpark last week.
The vehicle was parked in the Campbell Street carpark with the keys in the ignition when it was taken on Saturday.
It was recovered the following day in Splatt Street.
Police were reviewing CCTV footage.
Speeding fines
POLICE issued more than 20 fines for speeding on the weekend in the Swan Hill region.
Two drink drivers and two unaccompanied learner drivers also received fines.
Cardboard fire
A FARMER was expected to be charged over the lighting of a fire during restrictions.
Police said a small fire was lit to burn cardboard boxes in Church Road, Woorinen at about 6pm on Friday.
The CFA was alerted and police attended.
Bike shock
A MOUNTAIN bike was taken from a Swan Hill property on Saturday.
Police said the victim had provided a glass of water to someone who had knocked on the front door, and noticed an older mountain bike on the side of the house.
She then noticed that her own bike was stolen.
Plates taken
PERSONALISED registration plates were stolen from a vehicle in Robinvale.
The victim parked in Latje Road between Saturday and Sunday, when the rear plate was taken.
Wall graffiti
A SHED wall was vandalised in Robinvale last week.
Black paint was used to graffiti the wall in George Street and police were seeking more information to identify the offender.
Dashcam dash
POLICE say a dashcam was stolen from an unlocked vehicle in Swan Hill.
The vehicle, parked at a McCrae Street property, was entered and the $300 device taken some time between January 14 and 15.
