Grass and scrub fire
AUTHORITIES are still investigating the cause of a grass fire near Robinvale on Wednesday last week.
More than 70 hectares of grasslands and scrub on Crown land was burnt in the blaze.
Forest Fire Management Victoria said “non-malicious human error was one avenue of inquiry”.
The fire started close to the intersection of Happy Valley and Manna roads, about 8.5km south-west of Robinvale, about 2.15pm.
The fire was travelling in a north-east direction and quickly jumped across Happy Valley Road into scrub land.
The fire was quickly contained on the northern side, however a wind change sent the fire in an easterly direction towards bushland.
About 20 CFA and Forest Fire Management Victoria appliances were able to bring the fire under control by 8.32pm.
No one was injured and no buildings were damaged.
Cash theft
A TIP jar was stolen from a Swan Hill pizza shop last week.
Police said a male entered the Campbell Street store about noon on Tuesday last week and took the tips jar, before fleeing south on bike.
He was described as having a dark complexion, aged late teens to early 20s, and wearing a white-hooded KSCY jumper, black shorts and white shoes.
A black mask was concealing his face.
Theft from vehicle
A MAKITA tech gun was stolen from the tray of a Ford Ranger in Sea Lake on Saturday.
Police said it was not known who took the power tool, valued at $300, from the tray of the ute parked in the driveway of a Hannon Street property just before 2.30pm.
Bike stolen
A BICYLE was reported stolen from a Swan Hill property earlier this week.
A silver and gold BMX was taken from a front yard in Pritchard Street some time between 7pm on Thursday last week and 7am the following day.
Police said the bicycle was not secured.
“It was further determined that neighbours at the adjacent property also had a bicycle stolen from them two weeks (prior) but unreported to police,” a police spokeswoman said.
