Supermarket raid fails

POLICE are hunting a masked bandit who tried to smash his way into a Swan Hill supermarket on February 25.

The bandit threw a pickaxe head at the Woolworths glass door, piercing it.

The pickaxe head bounced back and landed on the carpark side of the door.

While throwing the axe with his right hand, the bandit lost a glove. He then reached through the small hole and attempted to unlock the door but was unsuccessful.

He then picked up his glove and fled south towards Beveridge Street, leaving the pickaxe head at the scene.

The male was described as Caucasian, wearing a light grey jumper with a hood covering his head, a black face mask and yellow hi-vis vest.

Attempted burglary

POLICE are investigating an attempted burglary at a Swan Hill house.

The alleged offenders made several attempts to enter the Rutherford Street house on February 29.

The victim returned home to a damaged front screen.

Later that night, the victim’s son heard a noise outside and saw a male on the front lawn. He fled when others in the home awoke.

The victim later found footage on her mobile phone of the same male getting out of a car and entering the front yard in the early hours of the morning.

Fire lit on ban day

AN ELDERLY couple have been quizzed by police after lighting a fire on a total fire ban day at Gunbower National Park.

Forest Fire Management officers found and extinguished the fire on February 28.

Police were called and both were interviewed and released pending summons.

“The offenders admitted knowing it was a day of total fire ban but lit only a small fire to burn rubbish,” a police spokesperson said.

Vehicle stolen

A VEHICLE has been stolen from a Cohuna farming property.

A chain was cut from a fence at the property near the intersection of Frantz and Cohuna-Koondrook roads and a 2002 Ford Courier with a tray was taken.

Police believe a car trailer was used as the owner had made the vehicle inoperable after the battery was stolen last December.

Bike stolen

A MOUNTAIN bike was taken from a vehicle in Swan Hill.

The white bike, with blue brand, was stolen from the back of a Ford Ranger parked in Dunstone Street between 8.30am and 9pm on March 3.

The victim noticed the damage at the Beveridge Street property about 7am on March 3.
