Unprovoked assault

POLICE are investigating a callous assault on a shopper in Swan Hill earlier this month.

The victim attempted to enter his vehicle when he confronted by an unknown person at the Coles car park on Beveridge Street about 10.30am on March 11.

There was a verbal dispute and when the victim tried to get into the car, the offender pushed against the door, causing the victim’s head to get caught between the door and the door pillar.

They continued to argue before the offender pushed the victim in the chest with both hands.

Fire damage

A WOORINEN South house was damaged after a barbecue caught fire.

Residents had finished using the barbecue at the Smith Street address about 9.30pm on March 8.

An occupant said he had turned the gas bottle off before going to bed.

He later noticed a fire coming from the barbecue. He tried to extinguish the blaze but his efforts were futile.

There was extensive damage to the side of the house and kitchen area.

POWER tools have been stolen from a builder’s trailer, which was dumped near the Murray River at Tyntynder.

Police said offenders gained access to a white Toyota Hilux attached to a trailer at a Richards Road property about 4.35am on March 10.

The vehicle and trailer were stolen.

The trailer was located about 6.20pm on the same day on the edge of the Murray River on Butler Road, Tyntynder.

All power tools had been stolen from trailer.

Alcohol theft

A MAN has been accused of stealing alcohol from a bottle shop in Swan Hill.

Police said a male entered the Beveridge Street store shortly before 3pm on March 10.

He selected a slab of alcoholic cans and left without paying.

A short time later, he was seen by police walking with friends in McCallum Street.

He was arrested and questioned.

A THIEF has stolen clothing after entering a Swan Hill retail store through the ceiling.

Police said the offender entered the Jay Jays store through the storage room roof, some time between 5.45pm on March 15 and 10am the following day.
