Smokes shop raided

POLICE seized close to $120,000 worth of allegedly illegal tobacco, vapes and cash at a Robinvale business on Friday.

Acting Sergeant Matthew Vancam said Robinvale officers executed the warrant at H&V Convenience Store, on Perrin Street, about 4pm looking for illicit tobacco and cigarettes and seized a significant quantity in the two-hour operation.

“We have calculated a street value of about $117,000 worth of illicit cigarettes, vapes, nicotine pouches and loose tobacco or chop chop,” Sgt Vancam said.

“We are making further inquiries relating to the matter and the investigation is still ongoing.”

Police seized 487 cartons and 211 individual packets of cigarettes, amounting to about 113,000 individual cigarettes, as well as 36 packets of illicit nicotine pouches and 6kg of loose tobacco.

They also seized 235 vapes, which are illegal for sale outside of pharmacies for the purpose of helping people quit smoking or manage nicotine dependence.

Police said no arrests had been made.

“If anyone has any further information about illicit substances being made available in the Robinvale community, please contact the Robinvale Police Station,” Sgt Vancam said.

Information can be provided to the station on 5026 3002 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
