A Message from the Mayor Bill Moar

Free green waste weekend in October

COUNCIL are offering free green waste disposal at the Swan Hill and Robinvale landfills on the weekend of Saturday October 23 and Sunday October 24.

Materials that will be accepted over the free green waste weekend include:

· small tree prunings,

· garden clippings

· grass and leaf litter.

All green waste must be free from contamination and commercial loads of green waste will not be accepted.

The Swan Hill Landfill will be open 9am-2pm on the Saturday and 9am-4pm on the Sunday.

Robinvale Landfill will be open 9am-3pm on the Sunday.

Our free green waste weekend was a great way of keeping recyclable green waste out of landfill.Upcoming hard waste collections

Domestic hard waste collections will take place in October in the towns of Lake Boga, Tresco, Ultima, Woorinen South and Beverford.

· Lake Boga / Tresco– Monday October 18

· Ultima / Woorinen South – Tuesday October 19

· Beverford – Wednesday October 20

Our hard waste collection is a great way for residents in our rural towns to have a spring clean, clear out unwanted household items like old furniture, white goods, scrap metal, electrical items, tools, mowers and timber.

The hard waste collection is rotated around, ensuring each rural town has a collection every two years.

For maps of collection areas please visit council’s website at www.swanhill.vic.gov.au, or local resident in these communities can watch out for a brochure in their mailbox.

For more information on hard waste collection, contact Council’s Waste Management Unit on 5036 2401.Dining pod applications are now open

Local hospitality businesses now have the opportunity to apply, renew or request to have their dining pods removed ahead of the summer outdoor dining season.

Our dining pods are an exciting way to aid social and economic recovery while maintaining a safe, socially-distanced environment.

For more information on the outdoor Dining Pod Program please contact our Economic Development Unit by phoning 5032 3033 or via email at ecodev@swanhill.vic.gov.auFree parking in the Swan Hill CBD extended

We have extended our offer of free parking in the Swan Hill CBD until Sunday October 10.

It is hoped that the free parking may make it a little easier to pop into the Swan Hill CBD, purchase goods and help our local economy to recover.

While payment is not required for meters, parking signage must still be followed.Draft Domestic Animal Management Plan, now open for comment

Our draft Domestic Animal Management Plan has been prepared and we are now inviting community submissions.

Copies of the draft plan are available online or from our local service centres.

There is a number of ways that residents can provide their feedback:

· Make a submission online at letstalk.swanhill.vic.gov.au/

· Email locallaws@swanhill.vic.gov.au

· Send your written submission to: Swan Hill Rural City Council, Domestic Animal Management Plan Submission, PO Box 488 Swan Hill Vic 3585

· Or drop off your written submission to one of our service centres in Swan Hill or Robinvale. Please get vaccinated

A COVID-19 vaccine is your best defence and our only way forward from the current pandemic.

Now’s the time to arm yourself, your family, your friends, your work mates, your community – someone you love.

I recognise the personal choice to be vaccinated is yours, you may consider consulting your family and GP before making this decision.
