THE busy thoroughfare of Karinie Street in Swan Hill’s north is set to receive an upgrade, contingent on a successful Coalition Government re-election.
Member for Mallee Anne Webster announced yesterday that, if the Coalition Government is re-elected following Saturday’s Federal election, they will deliver $2.5 million for the Karinie Street Reconstruction project, replacing kerb, channel and road pavement from Murlong Street to the Nyah Road roundabout.
“Reconstructing this part of the road is critical for the Swan Hill Industrial Estate to ensure safety users,” Dr Webster said.
“This is yet another piece in the puzzle that allows our regional growing and thriving communities to continue to grow,”
The project will also see that part of Karinie Street widened, and provide a shared path for cyclists and mobility scooter users.
Swan Hill Deputy Mayor Bill Moar believes this will be money well invested, with two schools, the sale yards and various other important businesses based in this part of town.
“There are hundreds of jobs down this street, hundreds and hundreds, and we can really grow it, but we need the infrastructure to do it,” Cr Moar said.
“It’s great that we have got this promise to get that happening.”
If the Coalition regains government next week, planning for the reconstruction project can start immediately, with the aim to put bids out to vendors by the end of the next financial year.
“Investing in infrastructure upgrades ensures we are planning for a better future, giving locals the roads and services they need and deserve,” Dr Webster said.
“This funding commitment will create jobs, boost business investment, and drive our economic recovery.”
