MEMBER for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes has been sworn in as Victoria’s first female treasurer.
The Labor MP, who sits in the upper house, replaced Tim Pallas after he quit politics earlier this week.
Ms Symes, from Benalla, has served as Victoria’s Attorney-General since 2020.
She will relinquish that responsibility, as well as emergency services, and pick up industrial relations and regional development.
Ms Symes will remain the government’s leader in the upper house, where it is her responsibility to be across every piece of legislation in parliament and ensure its passage.
The regional MP has represented the Northern Victoria region, which encompasses the Gannawarra and Swan Hill local government areas, since first elected in 2014.
“As Treasurer, she’ll bring new ideas and new energy to the portfolio – ensuring that every dollar of investment is focused on supporting families and frontline services,” Premier Jacinta Allan said.
