MALLEE MP Anne Webster said she was happy to congratulate David Littleproud and Kevin Hogan for securing Nationals leadership.
Dr Webster said she supported Mr Littleproud after he did a “tremendous job,” in his last three years as leader of the National Party.
“Normally you would switch out a leader if they were not achieving successes or failing to come up to scratch, and I felt that was untrue for David so I support him and his leadership,” she said.
“I congratulate Hogan in his election to the deputy leader role, I think he has outstanding vision.”
The party is yet to discuss its policy focus for the next three years, but Dr Webster indicated the National Party could hold more Shadow Government portfolios.
“We met in the party room for to elect our leadership, not to discuss policy, so we have made a tentative agreement to be back together as a party soon,” she said.
“The Nationals will be working on our policies over time; all policy will be on the table, and we will look at all of them going forward, but which ones we will focus on, I don’t know.
“The Coalition agreement will be based on the policies the Liberal party will develop and our policy agreements.
“We will be having those discussions determining things like portfolios, as we have more seats proportionally in the Coalition than in the past, there could be more portfolios in the National Party within the agreement.”
