Swan Hill to face Jaguars again

THE Swan Hill Soccer Club men’s team will return to Shepparton on Sunday, following their 5-2 victory in a spiteful encounter against the Jaguars last weekend.

Last Sunday’s victory saw Swan Hill sitting equal top of the BASL League Cup ladder, along with the undefeated Deniliquin, with this weekend’s matches reverting to the Division 2 competition.

The win was set up thanks to a dominant first half, with Swan Hill taking a 3-1 lead at the break. Conner Brown opened the scoring in the 20th minute, before Cooper Fox doubled the advantage five minutes later.

Abel Reuben then cut the margin in half for the Jaguars soon after, before Conner Brown then slotted home a penalty shot in the 36th minute to once again give the Swans a two-goal advantage.

An early goal to Shepparton after the break then gave the Swans some early concerns, before Cooper Fox iced the game, scoring in both the 61st and 80th minutes to bring up his hat-trick and the men’s sides fifth win out of six games.

Meanwhile, the Swan Hill women’s team put in a gutsy performance against Castlemaine Goldfields last Saturday.

While the final scores of 8-0 doesn’t make for great reading, what the score card doesn’t say is that the Swans were playing three players short due to injury and unavailability.

The women will face Tatura at Howley Oval on Sunday morning in their League Cup clash.

Finally, the Swan Hill Under 16 Boy’s team also had a difficult day at the office last Saturday, going down to Spring Gully Red 7-0.

The loss leaves the boys team with a two win, four loss record ahead of a season defining game against the bottom of the ladder Spring Gully Rovers tomorrow afternoon.
