Grand final the prize for Swan Hill teams

IT will be another big weekend for the Swan Hill Soccer League, with their senior men’s and under-16 boys’ teams just one win away from a Super Cup Grand Final appearance in the Bendigo Amateur Soccer League.

The men have taken all before them so far this season, adding the Division 2 Championship to their League Cup title in recent weeks. Only the Super Cup premiership stands between them and a clean sweep of the Division 2 competition.

The boys face Golden City Eaglehawk on Saturday morning, with the winner to go straight through to the Under 16B boys grand final after topping the ladder at the end of the home-and-away season.

The men take on Shepparton Jaguars at Moama at noon for a spot in the grand final. The Swans are yet to lose to the second-placed Jaguars so far this season, with their last encounter ending in a 5-2 victory to Swan Hill.

Despite their strong record, Swan Hill coach Tony Di Palma will be taking no chances, telling The Guardian that his team will need to be at their best in order to beat the highly skilled Shepparton.

“They’re a good passing team and their ability to maintain possession of the ball is next level – they’ll certainly pose a significant challenge,” Di Palma said.

“They’ve been a tough opponent every time we’ve played them and we’re expecting nothing less than a really tough and physical game.”

“We’ll be looking for a team effort from everyone, which I think has been one of our big strengths. There’s a few guys in particularly that we’ll be looking for big games from, but it needs to be an even contribution from everyone that takes the pitch for us to get the job done.”
