Swans eye top four buffer

ALL four Swan Hill BASL teams will be in action again this weekend, with the men’s team the only side that won’t feature at the Ken Harrison Reserve.

The men instead travel to Bendigo on Saturday evening, where they will face La Trobe University Black aiming for an important win.

After suffering a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Golden City SC last Sunday, Swan Hill are inside the top four but can build on their four-point gap over fifth-placed Border Raiders, who have the bye this weekend.

Swan Hill earlier this season recorded a 3-1 win at home against La Trobe Black, despite missing key players Jason Stokes, Stephen Whittaker and Gareth Johansen.

The women’s side will be fresh off the bye and hoping to remain on the winners’ list following their 2-0 victory over Epsom FC a fortnight ago.

At noon on Sunday they take on Golden City, who they drew 1-1 in round 5.

With a near full-strength team, Swan Hill will be perfectly placed to secure their third win of the season against the bottom-placed side, which would likely lift the Swans to fifth.

Both the under-16 boys and under-14 girls teams feature in a double-header on Saturday.

The girls will kick off against Castlemaine Goldfields Green at 11.30am, before the boys return to the pitch for the first time since last Saturday’s Knockout Cup grand final loss.

The third-placed Swan Hill host fourth placed Spring Gully White, with a win likely to see them climb inside the top two on the ladder

It will also pit the two leading goal scorers in the under-16 boys competition against each other, with Swan Hill’s Sonny Tucker (16 goals) trailing Spring Gully White’s Xavier Niazmand (18 goals) in the Golden Boot race.
