Soccer sides score points

IT was point-scoring weekend for Swan Hill’s Bendigo Amateur Soccer League teams, with all four securing points on Saturday.

The under-16 boys were the most successful, claiming a 1-0 victory at home against Spring Gully White.

The young Swans were made to earn the three points, however, with the match heading towards a scoreless draw until the final 90 seconds, when Swan Hill striker Sonny Tucker managed to get a shot past the outstretched hands of the Spring Gully keeper.

The men’s team were forced to settle for a draw in their match against La Trobe University Black, with the teams finishing 3-all at the end of 90 minutes.

After trailing 1-0 at half-time, the Swans quickly found themselves in real trouble three minutes after half-ime, when La Trobe’s Seth Bish doubled the home side’s lead.

That goal seemed to spark Swan Hill into action, with Conner Brown, Cooper Fox and Wiseman Sibanda all finding the back of the net in a 17-minute onslaught, and turning a two-goal deficit into a one-goal lead.

The Swans had to defend grimly for the final seven minutes of the match – and they looked like pulling off the remarkable, until Joel Bish found the back of the net in the final minute of regular time to even the scores and force a draw.

The under-14 girls also had to settle for a draw in their match against Castlemaine Goldfields FC Green, with the final scores 1-1.

Maddi Muir-Howie put the Swans in front 11 minutes into the match, before Castlemaine answered back in the 30th minute to level the scores, with both teams having to settle for a draw.

The women’s team were the other side to secure full points when opponent Golden City SC forfeited.
