Swans spread out

SWAN Hill’s soccer teams will be spread across the state this weekend, with just one game taking place at Ken Harrison Reserve.

The men’s side will be hoping to carry through a strong showing at home last weekend, when they defeated Deniliquin Wanderers 3-1.

This week they’ll be away to take on seventh-placed Shepparton Lushi at Vilbert Reserve from 2pm on Sunday.

It will be Swan Hill’s first chance to take on the side in the men’s competition this year, after receiving a forfeit win in round 8.

After claiming a brace on his birthday in round 16, striker Conner Brown has built a three-goal lead as the league’s top scorer with 21 goals.

The women’s side will be the only BASL action taking place in town, playing third-placed La Trobe University.

They will be hoping for a change of fortunes on Sunday morning, having been on the end of an 8-0 loss to La Trobe in round 6 at Ken Harrison Reserve.

It’s been an uneventful fortnight on the field for women, with a bye in round 10, before benefitting from a forfeit against Golden City Soccer Club.

It will be a tough ask for the side to run out winners, but with fresh legs after two weeks off, they’ll be raring for the fight.

The under-16 boys side are on the road again this week, taking on the league’s top side, Castlemaine Goldfields Gold, at Soldiers Memorial Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Swan Hill side were unlucky to be beaten last weekend by Spring Gully, going down 2-1 after Tom Clarke scored a long-range free-kick in the second half.

The under-14 girls will be wanting to bounce back from their loss last week to Castlemaine Goldfields Gold when they take on Kyneton Rangers.

The battle for fifth position will play out on Epsom Huntly Recreation Reserve at 11.30am Saturday.
