Crunch game for Swans

THE Swan Hill men’s soccer team will be in action tomorrow afternoon as they put the finishing touches on their upcoming BASL Division 2 finals campaign.

They play third placed La Trobe University Red in Bendigo from 4pm in a match that will decide third place on the ladder and determine which of the two clubs will have the easier path in the finals series.

Swan Hill is in fourth place, but a win would leapfrog them above La Trobe into third ahead of the semi-finals, with the first round of the Division 2 finals series to be played in Swan Hill.

The Swans will be without midfielder Jason Stokes, who’s red card from last weekend’s 7-3 win over Shepparton Lushi made him unavailable, along with Swan Hill captain Cooper Fox, who has a hamstring strain.

Their absence will put more pressure on Stephen Whittaker and Gareth Johansen in the midfield, along with Conner Brown and Faizal Amran, to find the back of the net and secure the much-needed three points.

The Swan Hill women’s and under-14 girls soccer teams will play their final games of the season when they both face Epsom FC this weekend.

The under-14 girls play at the Ken Harrison Reserve at 11.30am tomorrow, a third match against ladder-leading Epsom in 2023.

Their previous two encounters ended with losses, although the Swans pushed the unbeaten Epsom all the way in a 2-0 loss last meeting.

It will be a completely different story for the women’s side when they travel to Bendigo on Sunday to face Epsom, the Swans having won both of their previous encounters, including a 2-0 home win last month.

The under-16 boys team have the bye.
