Swans tackle winless Rams

THE Swan Hill men’s soccer team will be looking to continue their undefeated start to their Bendigo Amateur Soccer League Division 2 season when they host Golden City Black on Sunday.

The Swans will go in as red-hot favourites, having won their opening three games of the home-and-away season by a combined 14 goals.

Last Saturday’s 4-2 win over finals contender Border Raiders FC was the most impressive of the wins.

Midfielders Gareth Johansen, Jason Stokes and Stephen Whittaker were among Swan Hill’s strongest performers, along with goalscorers Cooper Fox and Conner Brown last Saturday, while defender Anyueer Buol will also improve with more game time after returning for his first match of the season last weekend.

The women’s side are also set to play Golden City SC in BASL’s female football round celebration at Epsom on Saturday.

The Swans will be chasing their first win of the season, having played four of the top-five clubs to begin their campaign, and will welcome back midfielder Emma Pitts from a pre-season knee injury.

Also in action as part of an all-female day of soccer at Epsom on Saturday, Swan Hill’s under-16 girls team take on Kyneton District SC.

With a win and draw from their first three rounds, the Swans find themselves third on the ladder and with a strong chance of solidifying a spot inside the top four with a win against the winless Ranges.

Both the youth and under-16 boys teams will also be in action, with the youth boys travelling to Shepparton to play Shepparton South SC on Sunday, while the under-16 boys will travel to Stanley Avenue to play Spring Gully Red on Saturday morning.
