Swan Hill Flyers back on court

Both Swan Hill Flyers teams will be out to resurrect their seasons this weekend, hosting a double header on Sunday against the Bacchus Marsh Lions.

The women’s team will kick off proceedings at the Swan Hill Basketball Stadium at noon, hitting the court for the first time since their 14-point loss to Melton – some four weeks ago.

Match fitness could well become an issue for a young side still searching for their first win of the season.

Bacchus Marsh currently sit in fifth place, with one win from three matches, so Sunday’s clash could be winnable for the Flyers.

The men’s team will follow suit from 2pm, in a must-win game for both them and the visiting Lions.

New Flyers coach Steven Bowden would be somewhat disappointed with his team’s start to the season, losing two of the first three matches, including last weekend’s heartbreaking seven-point away loss to the Castlemaine Cannons.

Sunday’s match presents a massive opportunity to resurrect finals hopes, with Bacchus Marsh so far winless from their three matches in 2022.

Recruit Lachlan Somerville will be one of the players the Flyers will be hoping gets his hands on the ball, with the youngster showing very promising signs last weekend against the Cannons, top scoring with 24 points.

Hugh Broad, Matthew Gardner and Bowden will also be looking for big games, along with youngster Sonny Beasy, who made his senior Flyers debut last Sunday.
