Flyers to fight Pirates

THE Swan Hill Flyers will hit the road again this weekend, heading south to face Echuca Pirates on Saturday evening.

The Lady Flyers will kick off proceedings, with tip-off scheduled for 6pm at the Echuca Twin Rivers School. The men’s match starts at 8pm.

Both teams will be hoping for improved performances following disappointing losses last weekend to the Mildura Heat, with the men’s team suffering another close loss – by seven points – and the Lady Flyers handed a demoralising 58-point loss by a much tougher, more experienced Heat outfit.

While last Saturday may have not been the result they were looking for, Saturday night is the perfect opportunity for the Lady Flyers to get their first win of the season, as they face an Echuca outfit that is also yet to taste victory from their opening three matches.

Zoe Morris will hold the key for Swan Hill, and if her young teammates can get the ball in her hands often, then a win might not be far away.

Youngsters Taylen Blachford and Jayda Kelly will also have key roles.

The men’s team will also be out to redeem themselves and, after three losses by seven points or less in a row, are surely not far away from claiming the points. They now have to try to fight their way back into finals contention.

That climb should start in another winnable game against the Pirates (two wins, two losses), with an on-the-road upset very much on the cards and the likes of Matthew Gardner, Lachlan Somerville and coach Steven Bowden all in form and likely to suit up.
