Hanging with the Hawks

THE Hawthorn Football Club’s annual elite-junior performance program featured three locals last week.

The Mortimer Petroleum Performance program was held last Tuesday and Wednesday, with participants involved in training exercises as well as receiving a tour of Hawks’ facilities.

Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers’ young stars Nic and Joel Clohesy and Woomelang Lascelles’ Wade Donnan were among the budding young footballers to take part in the program.

The trio were paired with a mentor by the Hawks, with Donnan working with controversial 2013 Norm Smith Medallist Brian Lake and the Clohesys teaming with Hawthorn premiership star Isaac Smith.

Sessions included a boxing and bike session with HFC strength and conditioning coach Luke Boyd, a stress management session with elite performance coach Andrew Russell, a “week in the life of an AFL footballer” presentation by assistant coach and former acting senior coach Brendon Bolton and a goal kicking analysis by Hawthorn’s head of coaching David Rath.

They will also have the opportunity to attend the Hawks’ Round 18 blockbuster against Sydney at the MCG on July 26.
