Dees survive winter blast to beat Balranald

A WINTER blast greeted Nyah Nyah West United and Balranald at Nyah on Saturday and it was 10 minutes of clean football that decided the match in the home side’s favour.

United eventually ran out 13.11 (89) to 7.5 (47) winners.

A dour opening to the match was lit up by the end of the opening quarter and into the second, with swift movement of the ball being rewarded with easy goals.

The rest of the match was even.

The Demons were best served by Zac Caccaviello, Adrian Knee and Alex Erlandson who were also among the goals.

Reggie Smith and Darryl White kicked three each for the Dees, leading the way for United.

Gavin Lloyd showed age is no barrier, with four goals helping the Roos’ cause.

Young leader Billy McInnes was named best for the Roos, along with Ben Fuller and Rod Pollard.

Round 12 sees Balranald return home to host Swan Hill, while United is up against Kerang at Riverside Park.
