NNW United were too classy for Lake Boga on Saturday at the Nyah Recreation Reserve with a convincing 41 point victory and in doing so kept their slim finals aspirations alive.
The Demons flew out of the box in the first term kicking with the aid of a stiff breeze booting four unanswered goals.
They could have been even further in front if it were not for good defensive work from the Magpies.
Youngsters Zac Warne and Rory Colville combined manfully along with John Harvey to repel many of the Dees forward assaults on goal.
The Demons had winners in the midfield with coach Corey Daniels and utility Brady Davidson playing quality football around the packs continually driving the Sherrin into their forward fifty.
The second term would see the Magpies hit their straps with them kicking four majors to the Dees solitary goal.
The Pies began to work more effectively around the packs.
Magpie ruckman Mathew Crooks gave his onballers in Cameron Johnson and Matt Filo first use of the footy and with Angus Monfries presenting beautifully up forward Lake Boga went in at half time down by the barest of margins having played arguably their best quarter of football for the season so far.
The Dees regrouped however after the long break with forward Brent Arho put on a goal kicking exhibition as he took the game apart.
He marked strongly and kicked several long goals to put the game beyond the young Magpies.
Arho finished with eight great goals for the day giving him best on ground honors.
Davidson went up a level and the effervescent Zac Threadgold had the ball on a string in the centre of the ground for the Demons.
The Magpies did rally in the last term booting four goals, but the Demons also registered five last term majors themselves due to their persistent attack on the ball carrier.
Former Demons coach Joel Campbell turned back the clock with an impressive second half performance and the consistent Jaydyn Sterling again proved his versatility off half back and through the midfield with another solid performance for the Demons.
The Magpies coaching staff would have been pleased with the form of Jarrod Taylor who worked hard on the wing as well as Warne, Colville, Harvey and Johnson who continued to battle the game out and were adjudged amongst the Magpies best.
