Demons demolish Saints

Nyah-Nyah West United recorded their biggest ever win over Tooleybuc-Manangatang since their amalgamation with a 119-point demolition at home on the weekend.

The Demons completely obliterated the Saints after half time, booting fifteen goals to one in a devastating second half; running out 24.12.156 to 5.7.37 winners in the local derby.

Tooley-Manang had no answer for United spearhead Brent Arho, who finished the afternoon with a lazy 12 goals, with Alex Erlandson and Sam Arho also joining the party with three goals each as well.

The home side took control early with their run and spread causing problems from the outset.

Demons coach Corey Daniels off half back was finding plenty of the ball, while Brent Arho and Joel Campbell were looking dangerous up forward for Nyah. Ben Arentz kicked the Saints first two goals in the opening quarter, but left the field injured soon after, which left Tooley-Manang undersized down forward.

As a result, they soon retreated to their short kicking, high possession style of football that played right into NNW United’s hands.

The Saints moved an extra behind the ball to try and stay in the contest before the main break, but despite the best efforts of Jack Spinks and Gareth Grant, the signs of cracking were already starting to appear.

It didn’t take long for the dam wall to completely burst after half time, with the game completely opening up as both Arho’s went on a rampage up forward.

NNW United piled on nine goals in a dominant third quarter, with the Demons moving the ball forward with speed and precision.

Ethan Saville and Zac Threadgold were terrific in close, while Daniels continued to run off half back for his side.

Jake Wilkinson was resolute in defence for the Demons, while Blake Larkings continued his good season in the ruck as he completely dominated out of the middle.

The only negative for United came in the form of a couple of hamstring injuries to Campbell Everitt and Brady Davidson, with both players now seemingly in doubt for next week’s game at Cohuna.

Saturday’s performance can only be seen as a major step back for Tooleybuc-Manangatang, who were becoming more competitive and starting to make some progress in recent weeks.

The Saints raised the white flag in the second half on Saturday and need to find a way to regroup before hosting Balranald this weekend.
