Six teams to contest inaugural u-14 girls’ competition

HE six clubs that will contest the inaugural under-14s Central Victorian Football League girls’ competition in 2022 have been announced.

The Tyntynder Bulldogs, Woorinen Tigers, Swan Hill Swans, Kerang Blues, Birchip-Watchem Bulls and Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers will be the six teams that contest the competition.

As previously reported in The Guardian, the competition will be open for girls aged 8 to 14 years, with the hope that participants will be able to graduate from Auskick into the competition.

Plans are in place to start the season with 12 on 12, instead of the regular 18-on-18 formation, and the matches will be taking place on modified fields during the first few rounds of the competition.

The creation of the competition for the 2022 season confirms the amount of progress that women’s footy has achieved in the past few years.

The sixth season of the AFLW will be commencing on Friday night as St Kilda play Richmond.

Pathways have now been etched out for girls who want to play Australian rules football, and opportunities are available to progress all the way from Auskick to AFLW, with the creation of this competition as the next step..

For more information regarding registration and the season ahead, please contact with the football clubs involved.
