Girls’ footy kicks off in style

GIRLS’ footy is off and kicking for 2022, with a successful first day of the newly formed under-14 competition last Sunday.

With a big crowd watching four entertaining games, it was easy to see why women’s football is one of the fastest- growing sports in the country.

Not to be outdone, the Woorinen youth girls’ team also opened their season in the Bendigo Junior Football League under-18 competition with a dominant 39-point win over Golden Square.

The girls secured their first win in m ore than 12 months after turning a seven-point half-time deficit into a comfortable win with seven unanswered second-half goals.

Boom recruit Issy Boulton got the ball rolling after the main break with four centre clearances in a row to get the momentum going the Tigers’ way– and from there they were never headed.

The Central Victoria FL girls’ under-14 competition continues on Sunday, with all games to be hosted by the Sea Lake-Nandaly Football Club.

Sea Lake-Nandaly Tigers kick off proceedings against Birchip-Watchem at 9.30am.
