Balranald closes in on top five with third straight win

BALRANALD now sits just outside the top five on percentage after racking up their third straight win over Nyah Nyah West on Saturday.

After losing their opening three games, Balranald continued to build momentum into the season, cruising to a 38 point win over the Demons, who are now the only winless team in the competition.

Demons coach Corey Daniels returned from injury, however it wasn’t enough to stop a rampaging Roos outfit.

“We came here to win and unfortunately we came second,” Daniels said after the game.

“It’s really disappointing.”

The Demons were only down by 20 points going into the last quarter, but the Roos stepped it up a gear in the last, kicking four goals to one to seal the deal.

“We probably got beaten at stoppages in the last quarter,” Daniels said.

“And we just got outworked, we ran out of legs and we were running on the spot there for a lot of that last quarter.

“Our defensive pressure dropped off and they ran all over us. They were far too good.”

Despite going down, Daniels was able to take some positives out of the clash ahead of their next clash against Tooleybuc-Manangatang.

“I feel for two quarters during the second and third we had control for the majority,” he said.

“We just weren’t able to capitalise and get the ball through the big sticks.

“We played some good footy in patches and we moved the ball really well. We just weren’t able to finish it off.”

Earlier, it was again Ben Fuller who set Balranald alight with four goals in the opening term to help his team to an 18 point lead.

He continued his early dominance kicking two more in the first six minutes of the second quarter, with the Balranald full forward receiving some platinum service from the Roos midfield.

Jarrod Skinner kicked the only other goal of the second quarter for the Demons in what was a tightly contested game.

Down by 24 points at the main break, the Demons got the perfect start to the second half when Matthew Duffy kicked an early goal to narrow the margin.

They reduced the margin further when Alex Erlandson kicked truly, before Yodok Soille got one back for the Roos late in the third to give them some breathing room.

Fuller kicking his seventh early in the quarter before Brent Arho replied for the Demons to give them some outside hope.

But Aydn Herman, Colin Andrews and Jydon Neagle all kicked late goals for the Roos to put the result beyond doubt.

Jarryd Stead was fantastic in defence all day for the Roos, with Andrews also having a great day through the middle.

For the Demons, Jaydyn Stirling, Nic Threadgold and Duffy were all fantastic while Arho ended up with three goals.VOTES
