Swan Hill aim to keep unbeaten record

THE Swan Hill men’s soccer team will be out to keep their unbeaten start to the season going this Sunday when they travel to Shepparton to take on the Jaguars in their second League Cup game of 2022.

The two teams met once this season for a 1-1 draw, which remains the only occasion the Swans haven’t secured three points.

Swan Hill led for much of that game after Conner Brown found the back of the net in the first half, and it wasn’t until a late 81st minute equaliser got through the Swan Hill defence that the points were shared.

The team will go in full of confidence after scoring an astonishing 13 goals against the Moama-Echuca Border Raiders last Saturday, which put them a game clear on top of the Division 2 ladder.

The Swan Hill under-16 boys will also go into their game against Spring Gully Red on Saturday morning full of confidence after they too filled their boots – and the back of the net – against Moama-Echuca last Saturday with a comfortable 7-1 win.

Faizal Amran started the onslaught in the opening minute, before following up with goals in the 24th, 50th and 63rd minutes. Alexander Olandezos (fifth minute), Sonny Tucker (58th) and Jacob Thompson (76th) were Swan Hill’s other scorers.

The Swan Hill women’s team will also be in action in Bendigo on Saturday as they take on Castlemaine Goldfields at Epsom-Huntly Reserve.

The young Swans put in a solid showing against the competition’s premier side Tatura last Sunday.

While the result didn’t go their way, a lot of confidence should still be taken out of that game ahead of a potentially beatable opponent.
