DANIEL Aarsman claimed Moulamein’s seniors best-and-fairest award by the barest possible margin last Sunday – outpolling Swans coach Heath Moloney by one vote.
Aarsman polled 81 votes to go one step further than last season, when the midfielder-forward finished runner-up to Brady Fordham. Despite the close count, there was no repeat as Aarsman held off Moloney (80 votes), with key forward Beau Duggan-Hulands, midfielder Luke Shannon and full back Cody Storm filling the minor placings ahead of Ely Miller, Morgan Turvey and veteran Nathan Buckley.
Earlier, the reserves best-and-fairest count was even closer, Matthew and James Moroney each polling 94 votes to share the award, with Jacob Lucas (49 votes) finishing runner-up. Lachie Martin took home the under 17.5 best-and-fairest award ahead of teammate Lochlan Prentice.
In netball, Gemma Miller showed her dominance to claim the Swans’ A Grade award polling 19 votes, with teammate Ellie Henery claiming the runner-up award with 10 votes. Maddy Houlihan (19 votes) was named B Grade best-and-fairest ahead of joint runners-up Mandy Champion and Penny O’Farrell (15 votes each).
DEMARIA SIGNS ON
MARCUS Demaria will coach Woorinen into a ninth straight season in 2023 after recommitting to the Tigers as senior coach last week.
It’s welcome news to the club, which won the 2018 and 2019 premierships under the guidance of Demaria. The Tigers are again considered one of the leading chances to claim this year’s title.
Woorinen president Craig Threadgold told The Guardian during the week the club was pleased to have their dual premiership coach again on board.
“We’re very happy that he’s re-signed, he’s gotten a lot out of kids who have developed incredibly well under his guidance,” Threadgold said.
“We’re very happy as a club to have him recommit as early as he has for next season and start looking to put together our playing list for next season.”
MOLONEY TO LEAD SWANS
MOULAMEIN senior coach Heath Moloney will lead the Swans in 2023 – his third year in charge of the club.
Moloney’s reappointment was announced at the club’s best-and-fairest vote count last Sunday afternoon, along with the appointments of Ben Evans and Travis Pryor coaching the reserves and Paul Alford to lead the club’s under 17.5 team.
The news of Moloney’s reappointment comes on the back of Moulamein’s seniors team qualifying for their first Golden Rivers Football Netball League finals series since 2008.
