SIMPSON ADDS BOGA B&F

Jacob Simpson finished his first season in black and white on a high, taking home Lake Boga’s senior Best & Fairest award last Sunday.

Simpson showed why he’s rated as one of the best ruckmen in the competition by taking home the award, with hard nosed midfielder Tyle Williams – also in his first season at the Magpies – finishing Runner-Up. Simpson also won the seniors Most Valuable Player award, while the Best First Year player award was won by exciting small forward Dustin Burns.

In the reserves, Tobie Richardson had a day to remember, winning not only the club Best & Fairest, but doubling up later that evening by also taking home the league Best & Fairest as joint winner alongside Woorinen’s Joseph Kelly – with veteran Magpie Wes Harrison finishing Runner-Up – while in the colts, Xavier Sherlock took home the Best & Fairest, ahead of Brody Palmer.

The netball awards were equally well fought out, with the A Grade Best & Fairest going the way of Sarah Hepburn, with defender Jemma Meehan finishing as Runner-Up, while the A Reserve Best & Fairest was won by Steph Anderson, who finished ahead Runner-Up Meg Rooney.

HAT-TRICK FOR O’NEILL

Marc O’Neill has secured his third straight Murrabit senior Best & Fairest award, holding off a fast-finishing Dustin Blake to claim the win recently.

O’Neill polled a remarkable 129 votes from just 13 games this season to be crowned the Blues best for season 2022, finishing 12 votes ahead Dustin Blake on 117 – with key defender Michael Grant four votes behind in third.

Fresh off their upset premiership over Nullawil last weekend, the Blues A Grade netballers were in the mood to celebrate, but none more so than Steph Reeves, who won their club Best & Fairest by just one vote ahead of league Best & Fairest Runner-Up Mary Yates-Ward, with both Chloe Adams and Lauren Morrow sharing third place with 14 votes. In the other netball grades, Jess Bray and Jo Danson shared the spoils in Murrabit’s B Grade Best & Fairest, while Erica Cummins claimed victory in the Blues B Reserve Best & Fairest.

Nick Hein capped off a remarkable season in the reserves Best & Fairest, with the premiership winning coach polling 101 votes to win the award ahead of Josh Bray with 77 votes, who was just three votes ahead of veteran Simon Morton in third. In the Blues Under 17.5’s vote count, youngster Samuel Copland claimed victory after polling 179 votes, with Archer McKnight following closely behind with 166 votes.

BLUES STARS LOCKED AWAY

While we’re out at Murrabit, the Blues hierarchy have wasted no time in planning for next season, locking away a number of key players for season 2023, with three-time Best & Fairest Marc O’Neill headlining the re-signing’s.

O’Neill joins Michael Grant, Brody Green, Nathan O’Toole, Ben Gillingham, Jordan McNeil, Ashton Wood, Tom Copland, Dustin Blake and George Goodman in recommitting to the club ahead of the new season.

The good news isn’t just confined to the football field, however, with Murrabit’s premiership winning A Grade netballers also getting in on the action, with Mary Yates-Ward, Kalinda Stanton, Grace Gillingham and Lauren Morrow all re-signing for next season as the Blues attempt to go back-to-back.
