Stagg party over

Kerang will have a different look about them next season, with the Blues losing one of their key premiership midfielders to the Bendigo Football League – yet securing the services of another Bendigo star at the same time.

Nick Stagg will return to his home club Sandhurst, where he has played 215 games and spent most of his football career before playing last season with Kerang.

Stagg had a year to remember with the Blues, not only in helping win the premiership, but also finishing top five in their club best and fairest behind Brad Pay.

He will re-join a Sandhurst team full of familiar faces, including teammate and coach Bryce Curnow.

It’s not all bad news at Kerang however, with news experienced Kangaroo Flat ruckman Nick Lang will be making his way north to pull on the navy blue jumper next season.

A Bendigo Football League interleague representative and club best and fairest winner, Lang arrives at the Blues with wraps on him, having played almost 250 games of senior football for the Roos.


Magpies recruiting spree continues

Lake Boga have secured the services of yet another key recruit ahead of next season, with the addition of yet another former AFL footballer.

David Gourdis will join the Magpies from next season and will add some much-needed size and class to Lake Boga’s forward line.

Gourdis was recruited to AFL side Richmond with the first pick of the 2007 pre-season draft and played four games with the Tigers between 2008 and 2011.

After leaving Richmond, Gourdis has gone on to have a successful career at local level, including premierships in 2017 and 2019 with Keilor in the Essendon District Football League.

With Gourdis’ signature, the Magpies will be hoping to continue their improvement, which saw the club break an 11-year finals drought this season.


Collicoat joins Tigers

Woorinen have continued adding to their playing squad ahead of next season, with former Quambatook forward Will Collicoat joining in 2023.

Collicoat kicked 35 goals from 18 games for the Saints in their final season and was the club’s leading goal kicker this year and last.

As well as playing for Quambatook, Collicoat was a premiership player with Natte-Bealiba in 2019 and will strengthen Woorinen’s forward line with his speed and class around the ground.

Woorinen also announced a number of re-signings recently, with Jye Barry, Josh Domaille, Ben Booth, Henry Thompson, Adam Saunders and Austin McKerrow all recommitting to the club – along with A Grade netballers Zoe Steicke and Jamiee Beasy.
