GIRLS footy will return bigger than ever this weekend, starting with the Central Victorian Football League junior girls competition.

The opening round of the competition’s second season gets under way under lights tonight at the Alan Garden Reserve.

On Sunday the baton will be handed to Woorinen, when the Youth Girls and Senior Women’s teams play their opening games of the season in Bendigo.

With the explosion of interest in female football in the region, the CVFL junior girls has gone from one junior grade in its first year to two this season, running Under 12 and Under 15 competitions.

Birchip-Watchem, Kerang, Sea Lake Nandaly, Swan Hill, Tyntynder and Woorinen will once again take part, with all six clubs to feature in both divisions.

Reigning premiers Tyntynder will be out to defend their title.

For anyone wishing to participate, it’s not too late, with all clubs still excepting new recruits for the season ahead.

The yellow and black army will be in full voice at Weeroona Oval on Sunday when Woorinen’s Senior Women’s team creates history by stepping out for the first time against the Bendigo Thunder, following a round 1 bye.

They will follow the Woorinen Youth Girls under-18s curtain-raiser match against White Hills at the same venue at 11.15am.
