Preseason carnival invites 60 teams

THERE’S no better way to get ready for the upcoming football and netball season than by having a hit-out, and the 2024 Emmetts Pre-Season Carnival is set to provide teams with the opportunity to do just that.

Hosted by Tyntynder Football Netball Club, president Peter Hawkins told The Guardian that an invitation was extended to about 60 teams.

“We’ve actually broadened it this year by going as far north as Mildura, then we’ve gone right down into the Bendigo league, we’ve gone to the Echuca League, the North Central League, and across to Deniliquin,” he said.

“If we could get 15-20 teams, that would be brilliant.”

This year’s carnival will be a slightly different format to previous years, running over two weekends on Friday nights and Saturdays to accommodate as many football and netball games as possible.

“What we are doing is on the Friday night, we are looking at two 20-minute halves, so it’s a reduced game,” Mr Hawkins said.

“But on the Saturdays, we are looking at played four 20-minute quarters, so a proper, full-scale practice match.”

Mr Hawkins believes it is a great opportunity for players to brush up on their skills, and encouraged teams that are interested to register.

“It just gives that real carnival atmosphere, and we’re providing that opportunity, so it just takes that element of trying to find games for teams and coaches so they can just have a really good hit-out,” he said.

The 2024 Emmett’s Pre-Season Carnival is on March 15, 16, 22 and 23 at the Alan Garden Reserve in Swan Hill.

Entry is a gold coin, which will be donated to a local charity. Full canteen and bar facilities will also be available.

Teams who are interested in participating are encouraged to RSVP via email to secretary@tyntynderfnc.com by January 22.
