Baird a Blue

AFTER coaching Heathcote District league team Mount Pleasant to a premiership last year, Adam Baird is making the switch to reigning Central Murray premiers Kerang.

The classy onballer won the Mount Pleasant best and fairest and adds almost-unmatched experience to a Blues side already packed full of talent.

Baird has won numerous premierships and was selected as captain of the Victoria Country team in 2019, being named best on ground when his side go the better of Victoria Metro.

His individual honours also include a Bendigo league best and fairest in 2019, the Michelsen Medal for his performances at Golden Square and interleague appearances.

With a tank that seemingly doesn’t run out, Baird will provide immense run for the already hard-working Kerang side.

The man teammates call “Skinny” joins forces with Kerang coach and his brother-in-law, Troy Coates.

Eagles sign flag centurion

DEFENDERS across the Central Murray have been put on notice by the Mallee Eagles after the recent signing of goalkicking machine Darcy Hourigan.

Hourigan last year kicked 115 goals for Division 1 Hills Football League side Nairne Bremer in South Australia, helping lead the Rams to a premiership.

Averaging more than five goals, his goal tally included massive hauls of 10 and 12 goals.

Hourigan made history at just 15, becoming the youngest SANFL debutant for South Adelaide.

He was chosen as an All-Australian for his performance in the 2013 Under 18 competition.

The booming left-footer has kicked 893 goals in less than 250 games.

Landings continue at nest

A RAFT of signings and re-signings have shown the intent of the Mallee Eagles as they seek a return to finals football.

Making the switch with Hourigan from Nairne Bremer, Harry Hollow will provide speed and endurance.

Hollow last year made 17 senior appearances for the Rams, including in the premiership side.

Jordan Robbins joins the Eagles from the Western Region Football League.

Named as part of the WRFL Team of the Decade, and a three-time Team of the Year selection, Robbins has captained the Altona Vikings.

Robbins joined the Vikings in 2020, where he played with fellow Eagle signing, and former AFL player, Jayden Post.

Zac O’Meara, the Eagles homegrown best-and-fairest winner from last season, leads the players recommitting to wear blue and gold.
