Tigers at ruthless best

WOORINEN’S women’s side bounced back strongly in their round 3 match-up with Marong.

In front of their home crowd, the Tigers were ruthless, pouring on the goals to win by 116 points against a team they were playing for the first time.

Woorinen’s second win of the season moved them to fourth place on the Central Victoria Football League ladder, behind Sandhurst in third by percentage only.

Freda Wosomo starred for the Tigers, kicking six goals and setting up teammates throughout the game with her pace and crafty ball use.

Jenna Bannam wasn’t far behind, kicking four goals, while Tenay Fellows, Brydi Lewis and Emma Peacock each contributed two goals each.

Marong found Woorinen coach Katelyn Hazlett almost unstoppable, as she broke tackles at will and provided her side with strong rebound ability from half-back.

The youth girls were also in action at the weekend for Woorinen, falling just short against current ladder leaders Golden Square in the under-18 competition.

After a slow start in the first half, the young Tigers kicked into gear, bringing the margin back to just three points in the third term.

Tiara Davis kicked three goals, with Ava Barker and Ella Gourley each kicking a goal.

Gourley was named best on field for Woorinen, while Makayla Roberts, Ava Barker, Bella Eddy, Alex Filsell and Shelby Boldiston impressed.

Both female teams will travel to take on White Hills this Sunday for a double-header match-up.

The under-18 team kicks off the action from 11.15am, followed by the seniors chasing their third win of the season at 1pm.
