Swan set to draw big crowd

FORMER Collingwood premiership player and 2011 Brownlow medallist Dane Swan will be the headline act for Tyntynder when they host Swan Hill.

The addition of Swan to the popular standalone King’s Birthday weekend fixture is sure to add plenty of interest from those outside the region and ensure a large attendance.

Meanwhile, Swan Hill have confirmed former 194-game Essendon defender and dual All-Australian Michael Hurley will be lining up for the Swans.

Swan, with a career that included 258 games across 15 seasons for the biggest club in the AFL, needs no introduction.

Tyntynder president Peter Hawkins told The Guardian the five-time All-Australian’s visit had his club excited for the weekend ahead.

“It’s obviously generated a heap of interest both within and outside the club, and we urge anybody who wants to come and watch a good game of footy to get along,” Hawkins said.

“There’s a big buzz around the club and it doesn’t really take much to get keen for a game against Swan Hill as it is.

“There’s obviously been a lot of rivalry on the field over the years and the players always want to win and claim bragging rights when they’re out there.

“Off the field, both clubs get along pretty well, we probably couldn’t say that 30 to 40 years ago, but we all know each other well outside of footy, but you always want to win.

“More than that, it’s just an exciting opportunity for our players to play alongside an ex-AFL premiership player and Brownlow medallist, it’s going to be huge day for our club and for the league as a whole.”

Entry for Saturday’s game is $10, or $5 for pensioners.

Tyntynder will host a sportsman’s night following Saturday’s game from 7.30pm, featuring an auction of Swan memorabilia and a question-and-answer session with the former Collingwood premiership hero, with limited tickets available.
