Demons prevail in physical contest

NNW UNITED are on a winning streak for the first time in 2025 after a comfortable 25-point victory over Tyntynder.

The 6.5 (41) to 8.18 (66) score brings the reigning premiers into the top five as they now look forward to a well earned rest, having the bye round next week.

The start of the contest was back and forth, with the cold wind playing a factor, both sides still warming up.

NNW United would lose two players of Brady Davidson (Hamstring) and Nicholas O’Neill (Groin) at the start of the contest and neither took further part of the match.

The first quarter would end with the Bulldogs having a small one point lead over the Demons.

Both sides would begin to work harder in the second quarter as the game started to heat up both in front of goal and on the field.

A number of heated moments occurred between both sides, with the umpires having their hands full to try and keep the game clean.

NNW United co-coach of Corey Daniels spoke about physicality of the contest after the match.

“Yeah, it was definitely a physical contest, particularly in the first half,” Daniels said.

“It did however open up a little bit in the second half.

“It was tough, but we managed to fight through and kept on grinding our way to the win.”

NNW United would eventually take advantage in front of goal late in the second quarter as they ended up having a 10 point lead at half-time.

The third quarter started to open up for the Demons, as they use their well known run and hold the footy system to their advantage.

By the end of the third quarter, NNW United were well in control of the match, having a 25 point lead with one more quarter to go.

Tristian Dalbon was solid in front of goal, as he had already bagged three goals on the day for the Demons.

The Demons other co-coach of Jason Murphy told his boys to have 30 minutes of ‘horsepower’ which is most likely referring to making them have forward fifty pressure.

Which is exactly what they did, as they kept the ball inside their forward 50 for majority of the final quarter.

Tyntynder’s Elia Ware was class once again on the day, his constant work rate couldn’t go unnoticed.

When the Bulldogs did have the ball in their forward 50, Ware stood tall and took his second goal in the final quarter, trying to keep the Bulldogs within touching distance.

But despite Elia Ware’s pressure, the Demons still managed to hold on to the comfortable 25 point lead and won the game.

Daniels shared some of his thoughts after the contest.

“Pleased with the result, it was a slog at first with the conditions being rather tough,” Daniels said.

“It was certainly a grind but we took the four points so we will now move towards the bye.”

Daniels was also very happy that the run and hold system is coming together now.

“We are starting to feel a little bit more organised with the footy today, especially defensively as we kept Tyntynder down to only six goals,” Daniels said.

“We’ve just got to keep working on our foot work along with hitting our targets.”

Dom Gallo made his return to the side on Saturday, and he had an incredible game in the half-forward line, bagging a goal and overall having a solid input of the match.

Daniels had high praises on the returning player.

“We are pretty happy to have Dom back in our side, he is one of those players who has the kind of foot skills we want to work on,” Daniels said.

“Good to see him hitting targets inside our forward fifty and giving us some running opportunities as well.”

Tyntynder will be on the road this weekend to take on the Mallee Eagles.
