Ten goal Toma dominates Blues

A 10-GOAL haul from Tom Toma has seen the Cohuna Kangas thrash arch rivals Kerang by 148 points.

The Blues kicked just two goals for the match, both of which came in the second quarter, and scored a total of two points in the first, third and fourth terms.

Kerang had no answer for the smarts and forward craft of Toma, who played predominately forward in one of the most impressive individual performances of the season.

A clear standout for best on ground honours, Toma’s three votes also sees him secure this years The Guardian LJ Hooker player of the year award, with the Kangas midfielder now an unassailable five votes clear of Woorinen’s Henry Thompson with one round to play.

The 24.20 (164) to 2.4 (16) victory is the Kangas second largest win this season and their fifth by more than 100 points and keeps them in the running for top spot should Woorinen falter against Tooleybuc-Manangatang in the final round.

It wasn’t just Toma who dominated, however, with Sam McGlone, Ricky Monti and Jarrod Findlay also finding plenty of the ball around the stoppages thanks to the dominant ruck work of Chris Anderson.

Anderson continued his good form and further pressed his claims of being considered the Central Murray’s number one ruckman by season’s end.

Full back William Lee was another who was among Cohuna’s better players, while Jacob Mitchell (four goals) and Corbin Anderson (three goals) were solid up forward.

Kerang’s better players were few and far between, although Jonah and Bohden McKnight both performed admirably for the home side, along with Tom Hetherington, Rylee Gitsham, Archer Dibsdale and Scott Pay.

Cohuna host Lake Boga this Saturday, while Kerang will travel to Balranald to end their 2025 season.
