Beck on top of the table

THE highlight of round 11 of the Swan Hill A Grade table tennis competition was the top-of-table battle, where Beck Legal assumed first place on the ladder with victory.

Young gun Aaron Threadgold combined with the wise head of Joe Pino to win the all-important two doubles matches, with Damien Mangiameli winning his singles matches but unable to get enough support from Paul Johnson.

Kunat Thunder made a statement against La Mangia Cafe, claiming a 7-4 win and in the process moving back into fourth place.

Lachlan Carroll won all his singles matches, while Ben Mangiameli was the best for the vanquished.

An out-of-sorts Johnny Threadgold finally bounced back to show some of last year’s form to help Sharp Fruit beat R&J Joinery 7-4.

Joseph Pino won his two matches, with Chaz Talboys maturing like a nice bottle of wine.

B Grade action ended with a couple of close matches and a couple of thrashings, with Advanced Packaging having a close 6-5 win over Opal Packaging.

Neil and Gayle Williams were the best for the winners, while Deep Seth won two singles matches for the losers.

Player of the year Darryn Stevenson again won all his singles for Swan Hill Windscreens, with Stevenson knocking down the door for an A Grade birth, while Ray Cunningham and Brendan O’Brien were the best for Swan Hill Chemicals, who ultimately lost the match 7-4.

Swan Hill District Driver Education showed why they are the side to beat this season, with even contributions from Kevin Edwards, Roberta Spicer and Rodney Stevenson, while Seymus Spicer played a lone hand for Team 9.

Syd Wilson Auto Electrical defeated an unlucky Swan Hill Chemicals 7-4, with Tayte Tants winning three singles matches and Shane Threadgold two for the winners.

Kevin Burge gave his all for the losing side, but ultimately played a lone hand and couldn’t get his team over the line.
