Finals race heats up

Damian Mangiameli

THE race for finals spots is up for grabs in the Swan Hill Table Tennis Association B Grade competition, with PDF Accounting having a 7-4 win over the improving Murray Downs.

Ray Cunningham was back to his blistering best for the winners, while Seamas Spicer continues to improve for Murray Downs.

There was no stopping Swan Hill District Driver Education, with Kevin Edwards and Roberta Spicer in career-best form, while Norm Campbell and Basil Spicer tried hard but were out gunned on the night.

Violi Finance had a strong 7-4 win over Syd Wilson Auto Electrics, with Matt Brunner having a stunning night, winning all singles and doubles matches.

He was well supported by Tarin Tants.

B Grade club champion Tayte Tants won all his singles, which included an impressive win against Steve Colombo.

Neil Williams inspired Advanced Packaging to a 6-5 win over Swan Hill Chemicals, with the highlight being Williams coming from two sets down to defeat Kevin Burge 14/12 in the deciding match of the night.

The A Grade matches were equally tight affairs, with Kunat Thunder clinging to fourth spot with an upset 7-4 win over McKnight and Bray Building Design.

Terry Martin was the surprise packet, winning two five-setters, while Stefan Mangiameli was at his dominant best, but needs more support.

Sharp Fruit may have left their run to the finals a little late, even though they defeated La Mangia Cafe 6-5.

Mitch Croft crawled out of his sick bed to win two matches, while Michael Shean was a class above, winning all of his matches.

Captain Ben Mangiameli called a crisis meeting a week ago for La Mangia, but Alan Thompson and Glen Evans are still struggling for form.

Beck Legal lost 6-5 to Swan Hill Homes and Sheds, with the upset of the year happening when young superstar Aaron Threadgold annihilated reigning club champion John Threadgold 11/8, 11/3, 11/4.

In a fiery encounter, Aaron dominated all aspects of the match. There was no high-fiving this week from John after conceding Aaron was too strong as he stormed out of the stadium.
